Will Rhinoplasty Change My Smile?
Rhinoplasty also referred to as a nose job or cosmetic nose surgery, that can both dramatically and naturally change the person having the procedure’s nose and face. This surgery is done under general anaesthesia and the surgeon will make incisions that are discrete in order to reshape the nasal bone and the cartilage tissue.
It takes an expert eye as well as surgical skill in order to complete the procedure in a way that leaves natural-looking results. They also have to be able to avoid not removing too much tissue (also called over-resection) and they also do not want to remove too little of the tissue (under-resection). If grafted tissue is being used (for modifying the nose tip for example) then precision has to be used in order to give the nose proper sculpture. When rhinoplasty has been performed then the nose functions will not be affected. However, it is important to note that in some cases a secondary aesthetic consequence may occur.
You have to take into thought that your lip movement and smile can be impacted by the surgery. So that leaves the question, will rhinoplasty change my smile? The answer to that question is NO, at least not if you have a skilled surgeon.
Any changes to the upper lip movement will normally only happen when work is performed on the tip of the nose. If the bridge is being re-sculpted or a broken nose is being fixed, then it will not have an effect on your smile. But if certain suture techniques are used in order to stabilize the tip of the nose or if cartilage is grafted then the upper lip will fill stiff after the surgery is complete for a short amount of time. The reason for this is because this grafted cartilage adds the needed structure to the tip and as a result, stiffness occurs. This will allow the tip to keep its position so it doesn’t drop with smiling.
After a few weeks, you may feel like your smile feels less pronounced but this is due to your nasal tip and upper lip feeling numb for a couple of weeks after your surgery is complete. Despite this, your smile shouldn’t look any different from other people and shortly after you will feel back to normal soon after surgery and you can enjoy your new nose!
